It's beautiful. I like the combination of trees, with street lamps, and then people. The image looks timeless.

Central Park in the fall. What a beautiful impression this photo makes of the essence of
a fall day in NYC.

It's amazing how time folds over itself in parts of Manhattan. Can imagine that this is Manahattan in the 1880s as easily as a contemporary view.

Really like the colors, but the treatment of the picture is too much...the friends in the picture get lost and are difficult to see.

It is a beautiful photo. Unfortunately, it does not capture the painting that was supposed to serve as inspiration.

Good lighting. Great colors. You may have gone slightly overboard with the filter. The people get lost in the background.

I'm not sure that losing the clarity in the faces is a valid criticism for impressionism - but maybe for this assignment. Grenouillere, Les Grands Boulevards, La Femme Au Parasol, Boating on the Seine are Renoir creations which depict people whose identity takes a back seat to the scene. This is very representative of impressionism although not particularly like the painting designated to serve as inspiration. I couldn't discount this lovely art because of a minor deviation from the assignment.

What a wonderful contest! Thank you for the comments. I wanted to create a painterly image inspired by Renoir's masterpiece. I thought of this image because of the quality of color and light, and the idea of figures sharing a quiet moment in a popular meeting place. Trying to bring the spirit of the original into a contemporary setting.

I wouldn't mind this hanging in my living room but I HIGHLY doubt this is a real photo. This has to be a water color, scanned image, scanned flattened oil, or something. Post the original picture that was used before the effects or email it to me and I will come back and eat crow. Honestly, should be disqualified. Sorry.

This is absolutely a real photo, even taken with 35 mm film The filter was to "create an impression" I do have an original and would be happy to forward it/send it anything you like. When I looked at last month's contest, there were many pictures with filters as well as in this month. I guess it is up to interpretation. I personally enjoy all of the photos and am just happy to participate in a fun contest. Lisa Vining

Could it be that her photo, composition, and seamless use of effects are so brilliant that you just cannot believe it? I personally applaud the artist for creating a piece that speaks to the assignment so magically. Brava!

One of the things I like about this image is that it is abstracted in a way that many of the other images are not. This image mirrors the Impressionists' concern with how we perceive light, whereas many of the other images have only chosen to emulate the content of the image, people sharing a meal.

It looks either painted ot edited
but each way it shows wonder and beauty
I really enjoy looking at it

This picture started out as my favorite but I had to hold back one star because of content after seeing other submissions closer to the Renoir but it has the atmosphere and colors of the original. I wish I could get results like this with my digital. Where did I put my old 35mm camera? It's a beautiful photograph.

Beautiful ! What I love is that you can actually feel the light and the shade! Instead of just painting what you see it is evident that she was really feeling this place!
